Our cousins to the north have recognized the fact that you cannot refuse to pay taxes just because you disagree with some of the uses those taxes are being put to. A man there was jailed for failing to pay taxes, which he claims to have done because he doesn't support abortions, which are subsidized by the Canadian government.
If one objects to the purposes taxes are being put to, they are free to cease being a part of a certain society. If they remain in the society, however, they consent to the system of majority rule that creates the taxes and distributes the revenue.
The religious-right plaintiffs in this lawsuit may want to take notice.
