Police Shooting Cover-Up

(By Andrew MacKie-Mason)

The ABA Journal has a story about police officers in New Orleans who shot two unarmed civilians and then planted a gun at the scene. They trusted in the chaos of Hurricane Katrina to disguise their actions. Apparently, it didn't work as well as they had hoped, because the second conspirator recently pleaded guilt.

The story is short on facts beyond that, but it's still a good read. The American public sometimes needs the reminder of why we try to limit police power: the police can't always be trusted. And the cases where we hear about it are only the cases where the police don't get away with it.
